NO WAY… OUAI!

Hey there, gals and pals!

Writing to you today about a recent discovery I’ve made in hair care. Last Friday I got my haircut at AREA Salon in Flatiron (feeling fresh 💇), so I decided to swoop up some new products to try out on my fresh do.

On my way to Union Square to catch the L train, I stopped in Sephora on 5th Ave and played around with some volumizing and texturizing products by OUAI, which I have always been curious about. OUAI (pronounced ‘way’) is Kardashian hairstylist, Jen Atkin’s brand. According to Jen, “OUAI means yes, in that casual Parisian way.”

It was my gut instinct to go for the Texturizing Hairspray. I was looking for texture and “texturizing” was in the name, so it kind of seemed like a no-brainer. After testing it out in-store, I liked the result but I wasn’t really getting the volume I was looking for. As always, the staff in Sephora was super helpful, and an associate recommended I try the OUAI Dry Shampoo Foam. It seemed a little strange to me, but to my delight the Dry Shampoo Foam is MAGIC. It gives your hair amazing volume and smells so good.

I wasn’t ready to commit to a full-size bottle of either product, so I headed to the check out to search for travel size versions. I stumbled on the travel size Texturizing Hairspray for $12 and the “Morning After Kit”; this little gem contains minis of the Dry Shampoo Foam, Finishing Cream, and Rose Hair & Body Oil for only $22. I left Sephora with a smile and extreme excitement to test out a range of OUAI products. Here’s a breakdown of the four products I tried.

TEXTURIZING HAIR SPRAY
This adds spectacular texture. Sexy I-woke-up-like-this texture. I like to apply it to my roots and rough it up a bit. I wouldn’t say the product is revolutionary, but it does what it says. I would say it’s similar to Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, but with a smaller price tag and better smell. All in all – a good product I will add to my daily regimen.

DRY SHAMPOO FOAM
This stuff is seriously good. I have tried a lot of dry shampoos in my day because I can’t wash my long hair every day with out it drying out, and this is by far the best. The smell is an amazing scent that is fresh, floral and a little musky and what it does for unwashed roots is even better. The foam absorbs oil while adding volume. When used with the Texturizing Hair Spray it is truly magic. Apply this product to your roots to soak up excess oils and product residue. This product will have a permanent home in my hair care routine.

FINISHING CRÉME
To be honest, this is not special to me. You apply it to the ends of your hair to smooth out and finish your look. It works at smoothing the ends of hair after styling, but I don’t feel it is exceptional in comparison to similar finishing and smoothing creams. You could pick up a bottle of John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon for $6 and have the same effect. My mom always used this, and I would borrow it sometimes. I can attest that it is basically the same product however, the OUAI Finishing Créme smells wayyyyyyy better.

ROSE HAIR & BODY OIL
An exceptional hair and body oil. This oil moisturizes, smooths, and smells like expensive perfume. I like to use it on days when I am air drying my hair. After brushing, I work the Rose Hair & Body Oil to the ends of my hair for a guaranteed smooth, frizz free air dry. By 10 am my hair has dried smooth and smells amazing. This oil is also great for running through your hair after you have finished styling it.

If you want sexy Kardashian hair, I would highly recommend trying out OUAI hair care. The Texturizing Hair Spray and Dry Shampoo Foam are keepers for me. Looking forward to trying out more from OUAI. Next on my list are Smooth Spray, Memory Mist, Wave Spray, and the Repair Shampoo & Conditioner. Let me know what you’d like me to review next!
